Is This the Moment You've Been Waiting For?

Writer's picture: Keven NewsomeKeven Newsome

Life has a way of settling into routine. We wake up, go to work, take care of responsibilities, and repeat. It’s easy to feel like something is missing, but we can’t quite put our finger on it. Then, an interruption comes—something that forces us to stop, pay attention, and realize we were made for more. That moment is The Calling.

In the first message of The Journey series, we looked at Luke 5:1-11, where Peter—just an ordinary fisherman—was going through the motions of his mundane life until Jesus stepped into his boat and changed everything.

The Interruption

Peter’s life was predictable and ordinary. He cast the nets, hauled them in, cleaned up, and went home. Every day. But on this particular morning, as he, his brother, and his friends were wrapping up after a long, disappointing night, Jesus showed up. The crowd pressed in, eager to hear Him teach, and suddenly, Peter found himself with Jesus in his boat. Peter probably knew about Jesus, but he didn’t know Him. That was about to change.

Have you ever felt like you were just going through the motions? Stuck in routine, frustrated, but unsure why? Then, out of nowhere, something shakes you awake—a crisis, a conversation, an unexpected opportunity. God has a way of interrupting us when we least expect it.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, this might be your interruption. God may be calling you. Right now.

The Miracle

Interruptions can sometimes be easy to dismiss. But God will not have his interruptions confused with coincidence. If he wants to get your attention...he'll get it.

After teaching from Peter’s boat, Jesus told him to push out into deeper water and let down the nets. Peter hesitated, even talked back a little, but he did it.

And then the unignorable happened. The nets filled so fast they began to break. The boats started sinking under the weight of the catch. Peter knew this was something divine. And in that moment, his eyes were opened—Jesus wasn’t just a teacher. He was Lord.

How often does God show up in our lives, but we dismiss it as coincidence? We pray for direction, for a sign, for clarity—and when it comes, we hesitate. What if that moment you’ve been waiting for has already happened, and you just haven’t recognized it yet? Can you see the miracles around you? They may not always by physical, but they WILL meet you at the point of your greatest need and vulnerability.

The Decision

The story could have ended there—with Peter amazed but unchanged. But Jesus looked at him and said, “From now on, you will fish for people.”  The Gospels of Matthew and Mark simplify the conversation into just two words..."Follow me."

Peter couldn't just go back to fishing. He left everything and followed Jesus. He, his brother, and his friends pulled in the boats, dropped the nets, and left their old lives behind.

And that’s the question before you. What will you do with your calling?

You can ignore it, brush it off, or tell yourself you’ll deal with it later. Or you can step into something greater. Peter had no idea what was ahead—but he knew Who was calling him, and that was enough.

Is that enough for you?

Your Invitation

Maybe this is your moment. Maybe God has been stirring something in you—through a conversation, a hardship, or a deep restlessness you can’t explain.

So take a moment and ask yourself:

  • Where has God been interrupting my life lately?

  • Have I been ignoring something He’s been trying to show me?

  • Am I willing to step out in faith, even when I don’t have all the answers?

I’d love to hear your story. If you'd like to share, leave it in the comments below.

But this is just the beginning. Next week, we’ll talk about The Threshold—that moment when we stand at the edge of faith and have to decide whether to cross the point of no return or turn back.

Take the next step. You were made for more and your journey can start now.
