The Discipline of Remembrance

Introduction

Hosea 12: “A Discipline of Remembrance”

This week’s message reminded us that our faith grows stronger when we remember. Just as God called Israel to recall His faithfulness, we too must pause and look back at the moments He showed up in our lives. Pastor Keven shared how wrestling with God, bringing Him our pain, struggles, and questions, soften the path to blessing and renewal. Through Hosea’s words, we’re called to return to the Lord, to trust His promises, and to remember what He’s already brought us through. When we do, our hope is renewed, and our hearts are anchored again in His goodness.

Study Questions

1.      What’s one memory from your past that has shaped who you are today? How do you make sure you don’t forget it?

2.      Look at Hosea 12:3–4. Why do you think God highlights Jacob’s story here? What does it teach us about wrestling with God and seeking His blessing?

3.      What are some things you’ve tried to handle on your own instead of wrestling honestly with God? What was the result?

4.      Read Deuteronomy 10:12. How does God’s call to “maintain love and justice” challenge the way you live and relate to others?

5.      When you look back at seasons of hardship, where do you see God’s presence, provision, or faithfulness even if it didn’t look the way you expected? How does remembering where you came from help you face future challenges?

6.      Last week, Paster Keven said, “The moment we forget where we came from and what he’s brought us through, we disconnect ourselves from the hope that brings us joy.” Why do you think it’s so easy to forget what God has brought you through? What are some practical ways to practice the “discipline of remembrance”?

7.      CALL TO ACTION: Memorize Deuteronomy 7:9. Have a conversation with a friend about the ways God has showed up for you in the past. Find someone who is currently struggling in a way you once struggled and share your testimony of God’s faithfulness.
