More than a Weekend: Why Fuse Student Weekend Matters

Every year, Fuse Student Weekend gives our students something that’s hard to find in the middle of busy schedules and everyday distractions: space to grow in their faith, build friendships, and focus on what God is doing in their lives.
During the weekend, students from Mt. Olive Commerce join with other student ministries on the campus of Maysville Baptist Church for worship and teaching. They stay in host homes provided by church members, spend time in small group discussions, and build friendships that often last long after the weekend ends.
One of our students, Keylie, shared about her experience.
Growing Closer
For Keylie, one of the most meaningful parts of the weekend wasn’t just the sessions; it was the time in between. Conversations on the bus rides and discussions after the sermons gave students a chance to connect and talk honestly about what they were learning. Those simple moments helped friendships grow and brought the group closer together.
Truth That Becomes Personal
One of the teaching sessions focused on the truth that God personally created each of us. While Keylie had heard that idea before, hearing it explained through Scripture in a deeper way helped it really connect.
“I already knew that God created us, but hearing the verses and the way it was explained made it easier to really see.”
That’s one of the goals of Fuse Weekend: not just hearing truth, but understanding it in a way that shapes how students see themselves and God.
Building Confidence and Community
Team-building activities were another highlight. At the beginning of the weekend, some students felt quiet or unsure, but working together helped break down barriers and build confidence. By the end, students who started out reserved were laughing, talking, and encouraging one another.
A Space to Belong
Staying in host homes gives students a relaxed space to hang out, talk, and process what they’re learning. It’s often where friendships deepen and students begin to feel truly known.
Why Weekends Like This Matter
Fuse Student Weekend isn’t just an event. It’s a time when students:
Hear the Gospel clearly
Spend intentional time in Scripture
Talk honestly about faith and life
Build friendships centered on Christ
Take steps forward in their spiritual journey
For many students, it becomes a turning point in their walk with God.
How You Can Help Make It Possible
As a church, we work hard to keep Fuse Student Weekend affordable so every student who wants to attend can be part of it. One of the ways we do that is through our Student Fund, designated “Youth Camp.”
Your generosity helps cover costs for:
Worship and teaching resources
Activities and materials
Transportation and logistics
Reduced pricing for students
