We Need Each Other

Introduction

The world teaches us to be independent. To rely on ourselves. To stand strong on our own two feet. But what if independence is a lie? What if the very thing we’re taught to pursue is actually the thing that’s tearing us apart?

This week in our Thrive Together series, we explored Ephesians 1:15-23. Paul’s words to the church in Ephesus offer us a powerful reminder that we need each other.

Discussion Questions

Outline

I. Be Thankful for One Another – Eph 1:15-16

· If selfishness is the root of all sin, then those of us who are set free from our sins are set free from the need to be selfish.

II. Pray for One Another – Eph 1:17-19

· If you’re not praying for the people in your church, then you’re robbing them of the most powerful gift you can give.

III. Encourage One another – Eph 1:20-23

· No authority in your life should ever be greater than Jesus…and if it is, then you’re living in sin.

Study Questions

1. What’s the funniest or most ridiculous thing you’ve ever prayed for or asked someone to pray for you?

2. Read Philippians 1:3-5. What would the church look like if everyone had this kind of thankfulness partnership with one another. Who are you most thankful for in your church family, and have you ever told them?

3. What difference do you think it would make if you prayed for the people in your church more intentionally? How does this make us unique as a faith group in the world?

4. Sunday, Pastor Keven said, "No authority in your life should ever be greater than Jesus--and if it is, then you're living in sin." What authorities, influences, or pressures compete for authority in your life. How can remembering His ultimate authority bring clarity out of the chaos?

5. The authority of Jesus surpasses every power and dominion in existence. How should this reality impact how the church engages with a world filled with competing authorities and influences? What does it mean for us to carry His authority as His representatives?

6. Read Colossians 1:15-17. If Jesus is above all creation, how should that impact the way you face your own struggles? What truths about Him do you most need to be reminded of today?

7. CALL TO ACTION: Memorize Philippians 1:3. Talk with someone about the authorities in your life that distract you from growing in your faith. Find someone you are thankful for and go tell them! And then ask how you can pray for them.
