Value #2 We Find Hope in God’s Love

Introduction

This week in our Mission and Values series, we explored what it means to find hope in God’s love. We were reminded that God is deeply relational, He sees us fully, chooses us intentionally, and works to restore us to who He created us to be. No matter our past, our brokenness, or our doubts, God meets us where we are with love that brings hope, healing, and purpose. As a church, we are called to reflect that same love by building genuine relationships and becoming a safe place where no one is left out and hope is renewed through God’s restoring grace.

Discussion Questions

Outline

        I.            God Sees Us. Psalm 139:1-12

II.            God Chooses Us. Romans 8:28-39

·         We don’t have to do things to get to God because God did everything to get to us.

III.            God Restores Us. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

·         You can only truly understand yourself when you begin to understand God.

Study Questions

1.      When you hear the phrase “God’s love,” what’s the first image or experience that comes to mind and why?

2.      Read Psalm 139:1-4. What stands out to you about how personally and completely God knows us? How does being fully seen by God affect the way we think about His love?

3.      Read Romans 5:8. What does this verse teach us about who initiates the relationship between God and humanity? Why do we still try to earn God’s love?

4.      Read 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. What does it mean to be a “new creation,” and how is that different from simply becoming a better version of yourself?

5.      The hearts of humanity naturally have a universal longing for meaning, identity, and purpose. Where do you see people trying to satisfy that longing apart from God, and why does it often fall short? How does longing itself point to a desire to be reconciled to God?

6.      Last week, Pastor Keven said, “You can only truly understand yourself when you begin to understand God.” How does this challenge the way our culture talks about identity and self-discovery?

7.      CALL TO ACTION: Memorize Romans 5:8. Confess to someone you trust if you’re struggling with being seen by, loved by, or restored by God. Talk about ways you can break through that barrier and then take action to do that.
