Real Life: Real Faith

Introduction

Let’s be honest. It’s easy to treat faith like an accessory to life...like something you put on for Sunday, take off on Monday, and maybe wear again next weekend. But Paul has a different vision. Faith isn’t a part of your life. It is your life.

In this message from Ephesians 6:1–9, we saw that thriving together starts at home and continues into our everyday lives. Faith isn’t something we keep in a church building. It follows us into our families, our parenting, our classrooms, and our jobs. So the real question is, are you living your faith where it matters most?

Let’s look at what real faith in real life actually looks like.

Discussion Questions

Outline

I.                    Honor Your Parents. Eph 6:1-3

·         Our attitude toward our parents is a reflection of our attitude toward God.

II.                  Lead with Love. Eph 6:4

·         Godly parents are called by God to raise future Godly adults. It’s your ministry.

III.                Work Like It’s for God. Eph 6:5-9

·         God doesn’t see your secular life and your church life as separate things, and expects us to interact as if we are serving Him in every relationship we have.

Study Questions

1.      What’s one lesson about family, work, or faith that you learned the hard way? What advice would you give your younger self?

2.      Look at Ephesians 6:1-3. Why does Paul anchor the command to honor parents in God’s Word, not just culture? How can our attitude toward our parents be a reflection of our attitude toward God?

3.      Read Deuteronomy 6:5-7 and Proverbs 22:6. How do these verses connect to Ephesians 6:4? Why does the bible put so much emphasis on Godly spiritual training at home?

4.      Last week, Pastor Keven said, “Our witness starts at home…it starts with our own families.” How have you seen faith or lack of faith at home impact someone’s life? How can the church be a resource to help families deepen their faith at home?

5.      Read Colossians 3:23-24. What does it mean to “work like it’s for God” in your job, school, or daily life? What are practical ways you can live this out?

6.      What are some of the ways we bring work home with us? How would your home life change if you saw your work life as service to Jesus?

7.      CALL TO ACTION: Memorize Colossians 3:23. Share with someone one of the challenges you have with your parents, your children, or at work, and talk about ways you can reframe those issues in terms of serving Jesus. Take action steps to make your new plan a reality.
