New Life Starts Here

Introduction

This message begins our “Strong Roots” series by reminding us of the unshakable foundation of our faith. Through Romans 5, we are reminded that even in our brokenness, God’s love made a way for restoration through Jesus Christ. It’s a powerful call to return to the hope, grace, and truth that hold us firmly in Him

Study Questions

1.      What is something you’ve made or built that you were really proud of? How did you feel when it was finished? Have you ever had something like that destroyed? How did that feel?

2.      Read Genesis 1:27 and Revelation 4:11. What does it mean to be an "image-bearer," and how does this define our original created purpose?

3.      Read Psalm 139:13-16. How does this passage reinforce the idea that you are "intentional handiwork" and not an "accident of biology"?

4.      Read Romans 5:12 and Isaiah 59:2. What are some ways we might describe or define sin? Why does sin cause such a deep separation from a God?

5.      Why is "being a good person" or "religious effort" an insufficient bridge for the chasm sin creates? What are some “band-aids” we use to try to cover up our sin without having to admit it before God?

6.      Read Romans 5:8-11 & 15-17. According to these verses, what was God’s plan to fix our sin problem? What makes the sacrifice of Jesus a gift?

7.      Read and memorize Romans 5:8. Share with a friend an area of your life where it is hardest for you to believe God’s love is personal to you. Reach out to someone who needs to hear that they were created and designed by God with purpose and worth and give them encouragement.
