Do You Want Proof?
Introduction
The evidence of who Jesus is can be seen throughout Scripture, history, transformed lives, and even within our own hearts. The truth is before us—but are we willing to see it? Jesus invites us to move beyond simply knowing the evidence and surrender our hearts fully to Him.

I. Proof in Scripture. John 5:39-47
· The consistency and perseverance of the Word from the time of the first writing until today is itself a testimony.
II. Proof in History. John 5:36
· The miracles of Jesus still exist to us as a matter of historical significance not as a matter of mythology.
III. Proof in Others. John 5:33-35
· From two thousand years ago up to this very day we have countless testimonies of the power of the Gospel to transform lives.
IV. Proof in Yourself. John 5:37-38
· We can have confidence in our salvation because the testimony of the Father lives within us.
Study Questions
1. What is a piece of evidence or a testimonial that completely changed your mind about a product, a restaurant, or a decision you were highly skeptical of?
2. Read John 5:39–47. What does it mean to read Scripture looking for Jesus, rather than only looking for religious information or moral guidance? How does the unity of Scripture strengthen your confidence in the Gospel?
3. Read John 5:36. Jesus says his works testify that the Father sent him. Why is it important to acknowledge real historical evidence of Jesus’s “wonder-working power”? How does having such historical evidence strengthen our faith?
4. Read John 5:33–35. How do changed lives, from John to the disciples to people around us today, serve as evidence of the power of the Gospel? How might the world try to explain away such radical change?
5. Read John 5:37–38. What does it look like when God’s Word abides in someone? Why do you think God designed Christian certainty to be given after full surrender rather than before it?
6. Read John 5:40–44. Jesus identifies the deeper problem as unwillingness, pride, and love of human approval. What are some things that still hold people back from coming to Jesus, even when they have seen evidence? What is something holding you back from an unconditional surrender to Jesus’ calling?
7. CALL TO ACTION: Memorize 1 John 5:10. Share with your group or a trusted friend something that has either strengthened your confidence in Jesus or held you back from trusting him more fully. Take one step this week to deal with something that’s still holding you back from full surrender.
